Bitter Defined
A basic taste characterized by solution of quinine, caffeine, and certain other alkaloids. Perceived primarily at the back of the tongue. Generally normal characteristics of coffees connected with their chemical constitution, influenced by degree of roasting and the method of preparing the brew. Canephora are more bitter than arabica coffees. A desirable characteristic at a certain level.

About 25 years ago, my mom and I were driving my sister to her weekend job at a bank Downtown. It was cold and snowy, a typical December day. On the way, we passed a homeless man standing at a bus stop, trying hard to keep warm.

In it, he claims that the US will eventually become one giant welfare-state slum under a Democratic regime; and that it deserves to happen, in that the Republicans have turned into the exact kind of backward superstitious fascists that is making Reagan spin in his grave as we speak. We all deserve punishment, he argues, and punishment is exactly what is coming, under an Obama administration and liberal-contro lled Congress. Sheesh, PJ, what happened to the funny stories about getting drunk with journalists at important world events?
